Work was also slowed by strikes in the shipyards for better pay and working conditions. France used the Anglo-German Naval Agreement, which Britain had unilaterally signed with Germany in June 1935 to dismiss British objections to the new ship, though they nevertheless slowed construction of Richelieu to ease British concerns. The French decision to lay down Richelieu in 1935 put the country in violation of the Washington Treaty, which was to expire on 31 December 1936, as the combined tonnage of the two Dunkerques and Richelieu exceeded the 70,000 long tons that had been allotted to France during the moratorium on new battleship construction. The main section of the hull was built on the slipway, while a length of the bow and a length of her stern were built elsewhere and attached after the rest of the ship was launched on the 17th January 1939.

The slipway was not long enough to accommodate the entire length of the new battleship, and so the hull had to be built in pieces. The ship was laid down on 22 October 1935 in the dock that had recently built Dunkerque. See page 14-15 in Jordans French Battleships 1922-56.French Battleship Richelieu & Her World War 2 Military Career Naturally no plans was given to Lyon as they were not even laid down, but in the aftermath of WW1 (before WNT) the Normandies which except Bearn had all been launched and hull and engines were 60-65% completed (p 14 Jordan)) serious plans was made to bring them more into line with foreign contemporaries and they would be lengthened, more hp 80000 vs 32000 as designed, increased elevation to 23 degrees=25-26000 metres range, new tripod foremast as in Bretagne with director firecontrol, horizontal protection strenghtened and bulges added.

I think that Normandie is well placed at T6, being a Fuso with quads, and Lyon at T7 having the most guns ever on WoWs, 16 shells is a lot and wouldn't go well in T6Īnd if Strasbourg was to be in the tech tree, it would be T7, if it was a T6 then the players that bought Dunkerque would've simply wasted money

Well Normandie and Lyon both had a planned refit in the 30s I think, I saw some pictures but I didn't saved them, these refits would surely make the ships faster too, and add a bit more AA
